I guess I can't help you figure out why people love the multi-reverb units. plus with the Delay I can get those edge of oscillation tones and so I can make the decay "move" with an expression pedal on the repeats in ways that a Reverb doesn't (unless its modulating I guess but that's not a sound I like. The Meet Maude and EAR ad4096 have been my favorites for this. I like to use a dark BBD delay as faux-reverb (mix set low). I have a VanAmps Sole-Mate to partner with my amps that don't have on-board Reverb and then I'll use my DRRI set to 2-3. I think I just don't like digital reverbs generally. I wound up using the infinity hold algorithm more than anything so I sold it all and bought a Freeze with a modified soft-touch switch.
In the end though most of them weren't inspiring enough to me or maybe I wasn't creative enough to figure out new ways to use them. I once had a Neunaber Slate + Expanse because the idea of all those algorithms that you can load and swap and modify at will is unique in the pedal world (plus expression control over all kinds of parameters). Of course, this is desirable for more percussive based music as it's the rhyhm that is the focus and reverb actually obscures that. Generally speaking, though, if you have a perfectly dry guitar amp in a dry room, your audience will tend to actually understand your chord progressions less on a gut level because the previous chord dies out before you change to the next. This inevitably leads to different types of music coming about. Nowadays, digital reverbs are the next progression beyond gigantic halls and we can get even longer reverb times than ever before and we can now manipulate the decays of those reverberations unlike any other method allowed in the past. What this means is your previous note is literally still playing when you begin your next one and, as a result, the choice of your next chord has to be something that makes harmonic sense with the previoua thing you were playing.
